Carlos Sainz against Alexander Albon in 2015.
Carlos Sainz is a four-time Grand Prix winner. Now racing with number 55 for Williams, he brings top-level experience to a team in rebuild; seven points and 18th in the 2026 standings so far show the scale of the task this season.
Born in Madrid on 1 September 1994, Sainz grew up around elite motorsport as the son of a two-time World Rally champion. He reached Formula 1 in 2015 and debuted with Toro Rosso, immediately being judged against headline talent in the same garage.
Sainz’s first four campaigns chart a steady rise. He scored 18 points for 15th overall in 2015, then 46 points for 12th in 2016. Ninth in 2017 with 54 points and 10th in 2018 on 53 points followed.
A switch to McLaren brought sixth place in the championship in 2019 with 96 points, then sixth again in 2020 with 105 points.
Sainz joined Ferrari and finished fifth in 2021 with 164.5 points. He became a Grand Prix winner in 2022, again finishing fifth overall with 246 points, and followed that with another win and 200 points for seventh in 2023. His most productive season to date came in 2024: fifth in the championship on 290 points with two victories.
After that peak, 2025 brought a leaner return: ninth in the standings with 64 points. For 2026 he moved to Williams. The scoreboard so far reads seven points and 18th place. Sainz’s track record—top six across 2019 and 2020, top five in three of the last five completed seasons and four career wins between 2022 and 2024—speaks for itself.
Carlos Sainz is 32 years old, was born in Madrid, Spain and first entered Formula 1 in 2015. The Spanish driver races for Williams under number 55.
