About Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly

Early rise

Born in Rouen on 7 February 1996, Gasly came through the single-seater ladder as a Red Bull junior with a reputation for pace and technical feel. He won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title in 2013 and became GP2 Series champion in 2016. In 2017 he impressed in Japan’s Super Formula, missing the title by a narrow margin when the finale was cancelled, and made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso at the Malaysian Grand Prix that autumn. He raced under number 10.

Promotion, setback and response

Gasly’s first full F1 season came with Toro Rosso in 2018, highlighted by a fourth place at Bahrain that underlined both his potential and the nascent promise of Honda’s return. Red Bull promoted him for 2019, but the step up was brief and difficult; he was returned to Toro Rosso in the summer. The response was immediate and emphatic. He ended the year seventh in the championship on 95 points, taking a famous second place in Brazil after winning a drag race to the line against Lewis Hamilton.

AlphaTauri peak

Renamed AlphaTauri for 2020, the Faenza team became Gasly’s platform for a breakthrough. He claimed his first Formula 1 victory at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, executing a faultless race from the front in a contest shaped by a red flag and penalties. He followed that with consistency in 2021, scoring 110 points for ninth overall and standing on the podium again. The 2022 step back to 23 points and 14th reflected AlphaTauri’s narrower operating window and fewer opportunities.

Alpine move

Gasly switched to the Alpine F1 Team for 2023, returning to a French works outfit. He finished 11th in the championship with 62 points and delivered a Grand Prix podium in blue. In 2024 he was 10th with 42 points. The 2025 campaign was more difficult; Gasly closed out the year 18th on 22 points.

2026 so far

Gasly continues with Alpine in 2026 and remains car number 10. As the season heads into its closing stages he sits 10th in the standings on 41 points.

Pierre Gasly is 30 years old, was born in Rouen, France and first entered Formula 1 in 2017. The French driver races for Alpine F1 Team under number 10.
